Aims and Scope

Journal History
The Wasian journal was first initiated and established in 2014 by the Manado Environmental and Forestry Research and Development Center (BPPLHK). In 2021, structural and national policy changes occurred, preventing BPPLHK from continuing to manage the Wasian journal. In December 2023, the management of Wasian was officially transferred to the Department of Forestry, Faculty of Agriculture, Muhammadiyah University of Makassar.
Since assuming management, the Department of Forestry at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar has been working diligently to revitalise the journal's standing in the academic community. Our comprehensive efforts include modernising the publication system, migrating all content to a dedicated university server that ensures stable and secure hosting, redesigning both the journal's logo and article templates, and implementing rigorous measures to meet international publishing standards. These improvements include adopting Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines, implementing Digital Object Identifier (DOI) assignment for all articles, integrating Crossmark for version control and content integrity tracking, establishing Open Access policies with clear licensing, enhancing the double-blind peer review process, and ensuring compliance with international metadata standards. Additionally, the ISSN ownership has been officially transferred to the new managing institution, formalising the journal's transition. These strategic enhancements aim to elevate the journal's visibility, accessibility, and credibility within the global scientific community while preparing it for inclusion in reputable indexing databases.
In addition, the name “Wasian” is derived from a local tree species known for its resilience and its role as a natural marker of communal space in eastern Indonesia. Reflecting the ecological landscape significance and socio-cultural meaning of this tree, the journal embodies a commitment to advancing the scholarly discourse on conservation, forestry, and land transformation in a sustainable and context-sensitive manner.
