Digital Archiving Policy

Preservation Commitment

Wasian Journal is committed to the permanent preservation and accessibility of all published scholarly content. Just as the Wasian tree stands resilient in eastern Indonesia's landscape, our digital archiving policy ensures the longevity of research contributions in conservation, forestry, and land transformation.

Author Self-Archiving Rights

Wasian Journal fully supports authors' rights to share and disseminate their work. Our policy allows authors to:

  • Deposit the final published version (Version of Record) of their articles in their institutional repositories, personal websites, or subject-based repositories immediately upon publication
  • Share their work through academic networking sites and other scholarly platforms
  • Use their articles for educational and research purposes without restrictions

No embargo periods are imposed, and authors retain copyright of their work while granting Wasian Journal the right to publish under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY).

Persistent Article Identifiers

To ensure permanent accessibility and proper citation of published research, Wasian Journal assigns Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to all published articles. These DOIs:

  • Provide a persistent link to the article that will not change over time
  • Are registered with Crossref to ensure long-term resolution
  • Allow for accurate citation tracking and improved discoverability
  • Remain valid even if the journal platform changes

All DOIs are displayed prominently on each article's landing page and PDF version.

Crossmark Implementation

Wasian Journal implements Crossref's Crossmark service on all published articles. This service:

  • Provides readers with the current status of an article
  • Indicates if there have been updates, corrections, or retractions
  • Displays publication history and additional publication record information
  • Demonstrates our commitment to maintaining the scholarly record

By clicking the Crossmark logo on article pages, readers can verify they are accessing the most up-to-date and reliable version of a published article.

Archiving Systems

To ensure long-term preservation of our scholarly content, Wasian Journal implements the following archiving strategies:

  1. PKP Preservation Network: As an OJS-based journal, Wasian participates in the PKP Preservation Network, creating distributed archival copies of our content across multiple secure locations.
  2. LOCKSS Compliance: Our journal follows the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) protocol, allowing libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for preservation and restoration purposes. The LOCKSS Publisher Manifest is available here.
  3. Local Repository Backup: All published articles, including full texts and metadata, are regularly backed up on secure institutional servers at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar.

Format Preservation

All articles are archived in their original PDF format as well as structured metadata to ensure future accessibility regardless of technological changes.

Access Guarantee

In the event of platform migration, publisher changes, or cessation of publication, Wasian Journal ensures continued access to all previously published content through our preservation partners.

Perpetual Access

Wasian Journal guarantees perpetual access to all published content, upholding our commitment to scientific accessibility and knowledge dissemination in the fields of conservation, forestry, and land transformation.
